| Editor's Note | When astronaut Walter Schirra wore his personal Speedmaster CK 2998 aboard Sigma 7 in 1962, he unknowingly secured Omega’s place in spacefaring history. This contemporary reissue pays tribute to that milestone with a modern yet faithful reinterpretation of the iconic second-generation Speedmaster. The 39.7mm stainless steel case, finished with both polished and brushed surfaces, is fitted with a black leather strap and a black aluminium bezel featuring the historic “Dot Over Ninety” tachymeter. The CVD-coated grey-blue dial echoes the subtle tonality of some 1960s CK 2998 variants, with white transferred markings and vintage Super-LumiNova on the Alpha-style hands and hour markers. A trio of sub-dials—a 30-minute counter at three o’clock, 12-hour counter at six, and small seconds at nine completes the chronograph layout, with a white lacquered central seconds hand adding clarity. The caseback is engraved with “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and the date “OCTOBER 3, 1962”, surrounding the classic Seahorse medallion. Inside, the watch houses the METAS-certified Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, bringing high precision and anti-magnetic performance to this historical homage. |
