| Editor's Note | The Portugieser Automatic 42 introduces Horizon blue, IWC’s new in-house colour developed in collaboration with Pantone®. This refined shade, created exclusively for IWC, enhances the watch’s elegance with a deep yet vibrant tone. Achieving this distinctive hue required a meticulous process, involving multiple layers of transparent lacquer—15 in total—applied, fine-ground, and polished to a high gloss. The sub-dials are milled into both the brass blank and the lacquer layer, while a specialised printing technique adds further depth. Individually mounted rhodium-plated appliques complete the dial’s sophisticated aesthetic. Encased in 18K white gold with a thinner casing ring and domed sapphire crystals, the watch houses the IWC-manufactured 52011 calibre, featuring fine finishing with circular graining and Geneva stripes. The Pellaton winding system, reinforced with ceramic components, ensures durability and builds a seven-day power reserve. A blue Santoni calfskin strap, secured with an 18K white gold folding clasp, complements the Horizon blue dial. |
